Officials cite satellite tracking, cyber disruption, and missile interception technologies.
U.S. military officials say advanced technologies, including satellite-based tracking, cyber operations, and missile defense systems, have played a major role in recent operations involving Iranian military capabilities in the Middle East. According to statements from U.S. defense officials, the operation involved strikes on missile launch sites and other military targets, with hundreds of missiles and numerous launchers reportedly destroyed or disabled.
“[…] The missiles can be intercepted and destroyed [often with Patriot missiles]. Field forces get notified that an attack is coming, so they can go to shelters or bunkers,” stated Brent David Ziarnick, former professor in the Space Force program at Johns Hopkins University and retired officer in the US Air Force.
The United States Space Force was described as providing early warning and targeting information through infrared satellite sensors that detect missile launches and track trajectories.
Military leaders also confirmed that the United States Cyber Command conducted operations targeting communications and sensor networks before combat actions began, aiming to disrupt radar and command systems. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine stated that cyber operations were used to interfere with enemy communications and situational awareness. Officials said these combined capabilities allow U.S. forces to detect threats earlier and coordinate responses across air, sea, and cyber domains.
